November 19, 2008

As many of you may already know, it's a sad day for Bigfoot Industries as their

doors were closed today. I spoke with Wolf Ernst this afternoon and could not believe (or did not want to believe) that it is true.

We can't imagine the pain and heartache our friends at Bigfoot are feeling, and our thoughts, prayers and best wishes are with them at this time.

Beau Durkee, Sales Representative for Bigfoot Industries was interviewed by Truck Camper Magazine (TCM) and has provided his cell phone number (661-406-5630) for any Bigfoot Owner to call him. The article is below.

Your BOCI Board of Directors are busy developing ongoing plans for our future. We will keep you posted on any developments. If you have any comments or additional questions, please submit them to me at mhenley@bigfootowners.com.

Best Regards,

            Mike Henley

            BOCI President

TCM Article

This morning we received a tip that Bigfoot Industries had closed after thirty-one years in the RV manufacturing business.  We then contacted the Bigfoot Industries switchboard and confirmed the unfortunate news.  For further information we called Beau Durkee, Sales Representative for Bigfoot Industries.

TCM: What happened at Bigfoot this morning?

Beau: The major crediting bank for Bigfoot shut the company down.  The bank’s decision came as a surprise to Bigfoot.  We were willing to ride out this economic storm and absorb some losses, but the bank was not.

TCM: Is the Bigfoot closure permanent?

Beau: Yes. This is a permanent shut down and closure.  If the company ever does restart, it would be something completely new.

TCM: Is there any warranty for Bigfoot owners?

Beau: Unfortunately, no.  There is no company to back the warranty.  If someone has a newer Bigfoot unit and they want some protection, my advice is to purchase extended warranty program from a local dealer.

TCM: Have the Bigfoot dealers been contacted?

Beau: I believe Jim Johnson, CEO and Co-Owner of Bigfoot, is drafting a letter for our dealer base now.  I’ve been trying to contact the US dealers that I work with personally.

I spoke with Jim but I didn’t get a lot of specifics.  He’s taking this incredibly personally as you might imagine.  He’s very emotional about letting go of his employees who are his first concern.

Just this month, Jim invested $150,000 into a new fiberglass mold.  The bank really caught Bigfoot off guard.  There was certainly no intention to mislead any dealers or consumers who recently bought Bigfoot product.  This was as much a surprise to Bigfoot as it was to the public.

TCM: Is there anything else you would like to add?

Beau: Please publish my phone number and invite Bigfoot owners to call me with any questions.  My cell number is 661-406-5630.

TCM: Thank you Beau.

Note from the President:

   RV There Yet?

      YES!!!!

We have had one of the best rally yet!!!  I heard many, many accolades from the attending members!  Also, I am so excited that 7 members ran for the Board of Directors

Four were voted into office since Ric Allen, Jack Willoughby, Bill Pickering and myself left the Board this year

Mike Henley, Skip Huwaldt, Dolores Westfall and Al Sandberg will join John Orton on the Board of Directors.  They elected Mike to be President, Skip will be Vice President, Dolores will be Secretary and Al will be the Treasurer.

It was wonderful to see so many people interested in running for office!

I want to say that I loved every minute while being your President!  I decided not to rerun since I believe that every club needs new ideas and creativity every couple of years.  I can tell you that I believe we have a very strong Board of Directors and I pledge to give them any support they may need!  I have encouraged them to  make any creative changes they feel are needed for the club.  They have pledged that they will do just that!

I must add that I appreciate ALL of the support I have received throughout the last two years!   The new Board members will soon have BOCI email addresses and they each encourage your ideas and thoughts regarding the club!

ALSO,  we have announced that next year's rally will be held in Colorado!  It will be at the Garden of the Gods RV Park in Colorado Springs.  I encourage you to register as soon as the application is available on the website since I believe this location will  be very popular!

This is the last Scroller update I will post.  Future 'Notes from the President' will be provided by Mike.  Cecil and I look forward to seeing all of you at next year's Rally and hopefully at many other 'mini-rallies'!!!!

One more note:  THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR CONCERN AND SUPPORT DURING THE FAMILY HEALTH ISSUES THAT CECIL AND I HAD AFTER THE LAST RALLY.  OUR FAMILY WAS VERY BLESSED AND DUE TO YOUR PRAYERS AND SUPPORT WE HAVE NO LASTING EFFECTS!!!  I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!

Hugs,
(2009, RV There Yet?)
